I have actually been having a harder time coming up with lesson ideas for this class than I normally do. I think it is because this isn't a thematic unit so I have to have 10 individual ideas instead of one culminating one. I don't have any lesson plans finished, but I hope to by the end of the weekend. Third grade will be my focus because I have been placed in third grade for student teaching this fall and hope to get a feel for it. I have ideas for my first two plans. First is a math lesson on fractions where students will create flip books. It shouldn't take more than two days. The second is a science lesson over the life cycle of plants. Students will be creating foldable flower books that I found online (they are the cutest!).
I love these ideas! The foldable flower book is adorable! :) Have you thought about your strategies to use yet?
ReplyDeleteI am trying to work in student-friend vocabulary explanations for the life cycle of a plant. I'm actually having some trouble finding one to use for the fractions lesson. I can't find a good book to read or video to play to help introduce it so I'm not sure what strategy to go into. Any advice is welcome!
DeleteI love this!!! So cute, students will love doing this!
ReplyDeleteI am student teaching in 3rd grade too. I really like that age group. They are pretty independent, but still sweet:) I love your foldable flower book! I think anytime you can do a hands on activity in a lesson students will react better to it!
ReplyDeleteIt is a fun age. I have been volunteering in the classroom I will be student teaching in so I have gotten to know the content that will be taught a bit. Hopefully that helps! I agree, students always react positively to a hands on lesson.
DeleteI love that you are teaching elementary. It seems like so much fun to come up with lesson plans for the younger grades where I feel as it is "work" instead of "fun" to plan lessons for accounting, marketing and business economics... Love the flower book!
ReplyDeleteLove the flower books. Its a really great project, something different than the usual life cycle diagrams you see. I am doing something similar in first grade. They are required to draw and label plant parts.
